In English and Korean- Feedback through 2014 Colombian JSKR-HK Events
My feedback through 2014 Colombian JSKR-HK Events in English and Korean

To all JSKR-Haedong Kumdo Trainees in Colombia

10614280_10152699197834570_4165224146106990096_n

Hi, everybody

I was so happy to see many participants’ passions and efforts given with sincerity and positiveness

to the learning of Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu – Haedong Kumdo(JSKR-HK)

during my stay in Medellin, Colombia from 15th to 26th August 2014.

First of all,

I would like give my great thanks to Jair DO & Nataria who made great efforts to make these events possible

and Master Sergio & Walter who supported us so much in allowing us to practice in Inem School

and Itagui city Indoor Gym.

IMG_10594154484486

My thanks also to Carlos who made it possible to train and enjoy

each other’s company at his cottage.

Finally also Johanntan and Silbia who were at my side translating all the time

until I left Medellin, Colombia.

Through 2014 Colombian JSKR-HK Events,

20140816_110858

I wanted to open and show how to learn and teach mentally and physically with a deep understanding,

and an actual experience, something that had not been shown before.

A way to look and feel into the so-called, “spirit world”, through swords training.

Introducing especially at this time about DO(도) through JSKR-HK Training under the principle of Nature(Universe),

which most teachers and practitioners of the martial arts seem to have forgotten a long time ago,

a way to show how to learn and teach in the martial arts in the world.

20140817_175723

What I have been doing in JSKR-HK is the development of learning and teaching for better life through experiences,

for as long as we live with both hands and legs.

During my time, in Colombia,

I have tried to explain and emphasize the importance of The Truth( la verdad)

for better life with the experience of Energy through the KIMU(기무) training.

Ki Mu means Energy (Power or Light or Wavelength or Love ) into the martial arts.

As we begin to know and understand the truth around us,

and cultivate our moral sense, as we move forward in our life,

as humans we should not waste our limited time of life and spend our finite energy in vain endeavours or

in the pursuit of extravagant or wrong things.

20140817_175755

This is for our real and better happiness and enjoyment in life.

Most people and even children know very well what good words are, and what right things are and how to say and do both,

but according to each person,

their level and degree of conscious or subconscious (unconscious) understanding of the use of their mind and body

their actions will be definitely different.

That is why we need to meet a good teacher for learning and teaching in life,

especially in the martial arts, who will let students move forward step by step, gradually,

according to their level in both mind and body for better life.

Knowledge is merely knowledge.

But people usually try to get it and show it off openly.

So when we start to practice and cultivate our mind and body,

when people start to say “I know it” or “I am right” then we have to take extreme caution,

because this can obstruct our advance and progress for both body and mind.

20140825_185325

It is definitely the worst enemy.

We know very well “sound mind comes from sound body”.

In this regard,

martial arts training is the best thing to cultivate both!

We train to make both body and mind healthy and stronger with wisdom,

with or without swords, as we get to know and understand the truth in life through JSKR-HK Training.

IMG_16301212752118

This time, through 2014 Colombian JSKR-HK Events,

I will publish a book in Spanish and in English with some description in brief,

of what and how to teach and learn, through Korean Swords Art, JSKR-HK for life.

IMG_16927252032037

I will make this book by the principle of Nature, and with some participants’ feedback and thoughts,

that they perhaps they had never experienced before my stay in Colombia.

Also I include some more articles from the experiences of other countries for more understanding,

and some skills with two swords as an appendix.

IMG_17284587818149

More learning and teaching through JSKR-HK will be explained and posted again soon!

Hope to enjoy and see you soon again!!

Hasta la vista baby!!

written down in Spanish & English and translated in English by Johnnatan Valencia in Medellin, Colombia

Day 1

Today, beginning the seminar, we had a great journey, not only learning and training Kumdo, but also reflection.

After practicing basic moves (stances, cuts, movements) and having learned the form number 1, morning and afternoon of practice and correction, all the attendants had the chance to interact, through questioning and answering, with Master Kim Jeong Seong, who uttered us a reflection about energy through martial arts and its influence on people, the present and future teachers and masters, as a mean to feel others and help them.

10614152_10152699197554570_8087484063776922725_n 10614280_10152699197834570_4165224146106990096_n

Questions had an excellent performance and from the master, very sharp and deep answers. As part of them, the participants brought up that you must know your energy first and then to ask how you can feel the other’s energy, or how to help someone who thinks he has all the knowledge and doesn’t want to be helped, to which the Master emphasized on the following aspects: Whenever you ask “Why do you love your boyfriend/girlfriend?”, generally, people answer because he or she loves her/him, because he or she is a good person, understands, and so on, when actually you should do it because of yourself. You help others because of yourself, teach others because of yourself; if someone doesn’t want to be helped, let it be, and then, do the reflection process until you get the way to help him/her out.

1604984_10152699198229570_2509203295879835909_n

The Master’s reflection about the energy focused on the following:

Energy is in everything, it shows itself in different forms and shapes, but it has 3 stages in martial arts and applicable also in any aspect of life:

1. It must be felt and experimented (feeling is not the same as knowing)

2. Focus and see it (when I focus, I can see energy in others and go on step 3)

3. Do it, use it (when I have already felt energy, I have seen it in others, I can do what I should, use it, to help, to cure)

Master’s teachings dwell in the beginning of the energy as the source to move the world, being the same energy love for the other and this “the right thing” because energy is light, it is proven by modern science, remaining a circle of synonymy of words attached among themselves.

IMG_14636279455697

ENERGY = POWER = LOVE = LIGHT Energy is power,

power is love,

and love is light,

power for our life.

The main reason to help and love the significant other is because you do it to yourself and in martial arts we can teach the basic principles of energy as the most important within the knowledge a martial artist must have. In turn, it’s to apply what we were taught any time in life when we were kids: be humble, help others, be kind, respect; being humble the foundation of everything and being always eager to learn.

IMG_10830721117647

Day 2

Today, we continued practicing the basic movements, learned the forms numbers 1, 2 and 3 with one sword and forms 1 and 2 with two swords. Practice was tougher this time, and done several times to remember the moves. The participants were very eager to learn, veryfocused, and very dedicated.

Master Kim emphasized on moving the body and with the weight of sword, also moving with it. He recommended to practice low stances, do the movements naturally, by not adding tension and explained when you are relaxed your energy flows, as energy doesn’t stay in one place and moves, we need to flow with it. He compares it with the solar system, the sun and the planets keep moving fluently.

IMG_14421072948055

He also taught us, when practicing forms, that some moves are faster and others are slower, but always conscious of them. Sometimes, when using 2 swords, we need to use one hand (when cutting, for example) and then forget about it, so we can focus on the other one. Master says that it is important not to think too much of the movement, but feel it.

IMG_14646393462047

Today’s journey was full of physical and mental exercise. Master’s teaching are always combined with great, deep explanation which guided of all the participants to feel the movement and make it part of the body, making the sword an extension of the body. Students did so well, that they are almost ready to advance to a new belt. Master feels very happy to see students learned very fast.

Day 3

IMG_14649427941265

(Final day) of the Haedong Kumdo Jin Young Ssangkum Ryu Seminar Colombia, Medellin (Antioquia)

Today’s training was very interesting, mostly about the KIMASAE KIMU training and cutting exercises, creating a great environment and

performance of the participants. Some of them were really good, some others tried hard and focus.

At the KIMASAE KIMU training, Master’s recommendations were:

1. Body is not yours 2. Energy is also not yours 3. Forget it all and only focus on breathing

Because you need to let energy flow while doing an exercise and if you focus on your body, you can feel pain and you must feel comfortable, but it takes time. Master said this many times as we were practicing how to do KIMASAE correctly and strengthen, so the test was to remain in this position for as long as we could, but by feeling comfortable, if any pain or something uncomfortable, we had to stop.

Other emphasized topics from Master Kim were:

“Be kind, be sincere in saying and doing , even thinking must definitely based on all training. After that, we can probably approach to a certain degree and level. According to person’s effort and passion will be different I am trying to do my best to let my students be able to use even a very tiny and short one in stead of long sword. From 3 dan HK, prepare for training mentally to use a short one like needle, so -called akupuncture From 4 dan…they will be able to use a needle”

Master’s teachings about Kimu may be described as following: Kimu Ki mean energy as it’s known Energy is power It is Light. Love is power and energy… So love is based on human life and all things in universe. It is wavelength. Mu mean martial arts

Love in the martial arts means Kimu

Sinmu:

Sin means “belief” Belief = love

Sinmu also can be expressed as “Love in the martial arts”

Master said:

“It is LIGHT, some probably might be able to see it…

I willl do my best to let my students to see it sooner or later”

At the closure of the event, Master Kim said he felt very happy to see good level and encouraged people, better than last time when he came in 2012, he said he would come back next year and hope to see many students become black belt if dedicated. Also through Jair, there will be a Kumdo championship, and as students did good in this seminar and showed improvements, will be promoted to yellow belts by the end of this week. It was a great event, full of deep teachings, martial arts and physical training, all combined in a marvelous way.

Seminario Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu Haedong Kumdo, Colombia, Antioquia 2014

ENERGÍA = PODER = AMAR = LUZ

IMG_10380641112662

■Feedback from 2014 HK Open Tournament and seminar tour■

==================================================

In Early July this year Jinyoun Ssangkum Ryu Australia held the first ever all styles Haedong Kumdo Tournament on the Gold Coast. This tournament was open to all styles and associations of Haedong, Haidong, Kumdo, Gumdo in Australia and around the world.

The tournament saw 5 different types of Korean Sword martial Arts associations competing from around Australia and from South Korea. Although the numbers were not large, the competition was fair and enjoyable! We hope that next year we will see more participants from both Australia and from around the world and from many more associations.

10462443_744547525583406_8878171706032801911_n

The slogan for this annual event will remain “Practice without politics, together we are one!” We hope to bring people of all backgrounds together to share in the way of the sword, Korean Style! And to practice together in the spirit of friendship!

As a part of this historical event, Grand Master Kim Jeong seong, joined us and conducted a series of seminars on the Gold Coast, In Sydney and in Melbourne. The main theme of these seminars was the basics of Korean sword. As always with GM Kims teaching there is an underlying, or many underlying, lessons to learn. Personally for me the message that was clear is that there is no greater power than love!

On the Gold Coast we had mainly experienced sword practitioners for our seminar and so the lesson was a little more advanced and covered topics such as single and two sword Chakumk and Baldo, (drawing and sheathing), also paper cutting as well as tatami and bamboo cutting. There were many black belts from different associations present and in speaking with some afterwards the feedback was that it is the same but different! How? By the correct use of the body and sword (follow the sword….) and the understanding of energy flow (….follow the energy)!

10400772_1501199120116090_6959037284363444280_n

In Sydney the seminar was for Hapkido practitioners mainly, as well as a couple of students that had had some experience with other types of Korean sword associations over the years.

Again the topics were simple, with some basic cutting and stances, then onto some single sword sparring techniques! Overall the message was loud and clear that without the basics, and a long and strong founding in the basics it is all just waving a piece of wood or metal around in the air! The students at complete self-defence showed the true dedication to the Martial arts, they listened and participated with courtesy and respect and it was so nice to meet such loyal and dedicated students and their Master! Thank you to Grand Master Geoff Booth for your warm welcome and hospitality!

10426593_1501199243449411_623727987947913394_n

With a very busy schedule we then travelled to Melbourne, to the Mudo Dojang in Roweville. Under the guidance of Victorian Representative Sabrina Teodorowski, and the assistance of Instructors Derek Upward and Justin Dodd we had an enjoyable two session seminar in Melbourne.

Many of the participants had attended previous of GM Kim’s seminars, so with the basics out of the way participants turned their attention to the finer points once again of two sword Chakum and baldo, paper cutting and throwing cutting techniques. Again the overall message of correct use of body and sword, the understanding of energy was at the fore! It was then my privilege to participate together with Sabrina sabomnim in some personal instruction, covering the higher level Ssangkum kumbup or two sword patterns.

I think we both struggled initially in processing the movements of two hands independent of the rest of our bodies but GM Kim reminded us that the hand/arm movements are not independent from the rest of the body, and that in following the energy it is almost possible (or as he said, it IS possible) to know the next movement in the flow of the form!

10246661_440457992765636_7814009112795791116_n

Simple, he said! Suffice to say that regardless of Dan level or experience we are always students, always learning and even that which we think we know has a deeper and underlying truth, which in turn hides more answers….. but then again are the answers really hidden or as human beings we are just not looking or perhaps we are looking too hard….

10453364_1498868433682492_6920205259372690614_n

I would like to personally thank our Victorian representative, Sabrina for her outstanding performance and for all her help. Not only did she come to Qld for the competition, but then met us in Sydney to give her help at that seminar and then personally picked us up and chauffeured us around Melbourne. Thank you for all your efforts!Lessons learnt……

On a personal level, I was able to “sit at the feet of the master” yet again during GM Kim’s short and hectic trip the land down under. I feel I am beginning to gain a better understanding of the universal energy that not only surrounds us all but of which we are indeed made.

10478126_10152549522139570_1038802686323509748_n

I go back to my earlier statement that the greatest power is love. It is this love that is the universal power. Even as I have typed this I know that these words do not exactly convey the true meaning, nor can we truly understand the principal as it is written. As a young man, I studied traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture and massage, the use of moxa etc.

My mother was always a willing patient for my treatments, and I always had terrific results. Why? With little knowledge, but with great love, I treated any number of ailments from shoulder and back pain to arthritic hands with great success…… the secret is love!

10501612_1501199080116094_2652174739065740316_n

To go one step further, if we open ourselves to this universal love, then the things we call intuition, gut feelings or hunches can be seen as an innate or inbuilt knowledge of the universe, of our “soul” interpreting naturally the universal energy. Open yourself to In Yun, destiny… follow your upright spirit and perhaps we can begin to see our true purpose.

Don’t be mistaken, there are negative influences and energies as well, but with openness and great love we can learn to almost literally see these for what they are.Can you love all that you do in such a way?

10385559_10152553909439570_8242883790024049854_n (1)

Given our “western” or even, ”modern ” understanding and use of the term love, then this thing is not possible. We need to open ourselves to the universal love, love of humanity, love of all “gods” creations, love of ones self…. Perhaps then we can truly follow the energy.

10414493_1500836563485679_1227016189246351768_n (1)

The words I have used to give feedback on the lessons learned, are not adequate, but I hope they are understandable. I start each day now with a meditation. Not the typical “empty your mind” stuff that is all the rage, because as I have learned,

a man with an empty mind is dead!

The human mind is a wonderful creation, it is not meant to empty! My daily meditation is one of thought, one of love, one of thankfulness!I am learning to open myself to feel the energy,to feel the love and in so doing am learning to make this a part of all the things I do.

Before using the sword, I am thoughtful and open to what it is I am about to do.

Before eating I am thoughtful and open to what it is I am about to do.

Before teaching I am open and thoughtful about what I am about to do.

10547663_10152553909894570_7476423744971397426_n

My friends,

be open

and thoughtfulin all that you do!

Learnings from GMK Visit

It was a great honour to spend time with Grand Master Kim during his visit to Australia.  There is a great deal to learn from the man and the Master.

As an instructor I was inspired by the subtle manner in which Grand Master encouraged students to excel and try harder.  The patience and calm with which Grand Master taught while still sparking passion among the students is something that I will try to emulate as I continue to teach Haedong Kumdo.

Grand Master Kim had a natural way of speaking about the flow of energy that made the concept accessible to a wider audience.  It was great to see students connect with messages about the flow of movement and use of body.

10464074_10152699074169179_4714722161115716115_n

In my time training in martial arts I often find a sense of calm during training and a peacefulness the comes from immersing oneself in the art. Training with Grand Master Kim has only strengthened this feeling by encouraging the don’t think just do philosophy in a new way.  Rather than blindly follow the instructions the lesson was to feel and follow your body and your energy.  We don’t all move exactly the same way and that’s ok, achieve the desired outcome in a way that is good for your body that allows your energy to flow rather than forcing yourself to move in a way that is not natural.

I came away from my lessons with Grand Master Kim with a renewed sense of confidence in my ability to perform and continue teaching Haedong Kumdo.

From Alexy, HK Instructor in Moscow

Thanks to Grandmaster Kim Jeong Song

I was strengthened in my conviction that the Way of the Sword is a movement towards knowledge

and continuous improvement of techniques and myself, and a result of the demonstrations is

the essence of my training.

A championship and any kind of competition in Haedong Kumdo is not the desire to win

over the opponent at all costs or the demonstration my superiority over him,

this is not a perception of the partner as the enemy and rival. On the contrary,

this is the possibility for my spirit to win over the situation,

and the appreciation to the sparring-partner for the chance to test myself

and to evaluate my abilities in a simulated situation.

Hello, everybody

Haedong!!

I am so happy to see a bit more developed one in Haedong Kumdo skillfully and mentally, especially in quality through 2014 Spring HK Seminars in Finland!

As all of you know, you are now learning both body and mind,

maybe without knowledge into the your consciousness…lol

I will probably first have to say “thank you so much” for following my teaching through two swords system etc. even if not so good communication in English because it is not easy to learn and catch up with what I am talking and explaining about Energy both in life and in nature.

Maybe easy to understand, but need to be taught out of box through our own some experience definitely.

Already about 7 years have passed since first HK Seminar in Helsinki, Finland with two swords system organized by Jose as a HK Rep started to be launched here with “Relax, and Feel The Energy“.

Soon or later I do expect many trainees will approach to get to know both the principle of movements

through HK training in the martial arts and the one of martial arts in life for better one, which is that where energy go and flow, how to feel, how to move, what energy is, what relation it with human body and life is and so on.

1978815_10152265962894570_454883076_n

There is one common saying about three kinds of Generals at the battle

long time ago in Korea at the below;

JI JANG(JI means Wisdom, JANG means General)

DUK JANG(DUK means Virtue)

CHE JANG(CHE means Body)

▶CHE JANG will be able to protect himself and some other men under his command

by his physical ability etc.

▶DUK JANG will be able to make a great encouragement and give more motivation to raise the morale etc.

by men’s respect and his virtue.

▶JI JANG will be able to do things the above both general can do as well as protect or rescue many soldiers

and even his country etc. by his wisdom.

So finally , we can say that JI JANG is Best.

All of you should learn & teach to be JI JANG!

You should learn not only fighting skills but mental parts.

1482869_10152321265238349_5420559443834597650_n

As time is passing and getting to know something gradually day by day

through HK training mentally and physically,

you will be able to get such kind of wisdom and approach to close to the core.   I really do hope so!

Now I have several essays (or thoughts, or feedbacks) from each dojang instructors and black belts since 2014 Finish spring HK seminar ended.

I am going to open it so we can share our thoughts freely for next better one for ourselves right after I take it all.

Any HK black belts’s Essay welcome, please send it to me

through my email address, bmw43@hanmail.net .

Before reading, just think of it.

Each human have their own thoughts or ideas whatever we do.

You may read and feel it differently a bit to the each one

even if all HK members has been learning under me and each instructors by almost same condition.

But all is different, so most important thing in life is to

first make a communication and understanding and consideration

in order to make a harmony for all at home and at our society in the nature.

Harmony will make Power and Energy for ourselves!

_full (19)

So, training to enjoy together and curing others

and living together in the universe will be needed Power or Energy,

which could be said, so-called “LOVE”

Today this much!

See you soon again!

Kiitos!

From Kim

Feedback from the Finnish Haedong Kumdo (Jinyoung Ssankum Ryu) Spring Seminar in 2014

05/30/2014 By admin Leave a Comment

Feedback from the Finnish Haedong Kumdo (Jinyoung Ssankum Ryu) Spring Seminar in 2014

This is a feedback from the Finnish Haedong Kumdo (Jinyoung Ssankum Ryu) Spring Seminar

held from 7th to 14th of May 2014 in Helsinki by Grandmaster Kim Jeong Seong (9.dan)

and organized by Finnish Rep. Johannes Hentunen (4.dan). As I arrived in Helsinki from the deep heartlands of Finland I was able to attend training sessions from 8th to 13th of May.

10153799_827402397288726_7924548842944583042_nAs always it was a very productive and enjoyable get-together with Chongjaenim Kim and the Finnish HK family. Again I felt that in knowledge and skill we got deeper with the familiar and wider with some new curriculum (Ssangkum Chackbaldosul).

The seminar consisted of dan training, dan tests and the main seminar day for all belt levels. We also had some extra training in a park training Kimu with trees, which was to my eye a very illustrative method for channeling inner strength.

In addition we got a lot of insight to Kimu as the Thursday’s dan training mainly consisted of it. Grandmaster Kim emphasized that even though Kimu includes the elements of a fighting skill he teaches it only for health and happiness, for good life.

GM Kim taught that while practicing Kimu one should program it to one’s system so it becomes a state of mind which can just simply be turned on. So if one is still thinking too much of some particular hand movement and concentrating on things outside, programming is not yet finished and the natural flow of energy is disturbed. GM Kim also taught to question how to focus.

If we are learning something new or doing something interesting, it is quite obvious that we do focus. I think the point of this was that sometimes we try to focus too much which makes us stiff and too attached to some certain detail. Through enjoying and training this automation process is possible so sometimes it’s just better to do and enjoy instead of focusing and thinking. “Don’t do it intentionally”, he said, when we tried to imitate some twisting motions in Kimu-training.

I really believe in this kind of training. That you can really change the way how you move and use your body radically. During my time in the martial arts I have also experienced it. I find the key in the feeling. When you find a natural feeling and learn how to keep it though the motion you just go and do it.

10341693_834403636588602_5425180460537412858_nDuring time, enjoyment and practice you start using your body differently in different situations. But somehow you must find the feeling and keep it.

And this is not an easy thing to teach or learn. I think GM Kim is doing a great job with this and in my opinion Kimu is one of such a system that teaches this.

I really like the way how Chongjaenim appreciates social life. Almost every evening the HK family gathers around in some restaurant and/or pub to chat about life. I want to make a connection point to Kimu in these situations outside the dojang. As we were chatting in a pub I noticed, again, how Chongjaenim’s body language works. I am impressed just to look as he waves his hands during telling a story. There is no tension in his shoulders.

Actually it’s a challenge to find any kind of tension anywhere. Even though he is swinging his hands the use of muscles is so economic, that you really cannot see extra tension. It seems that there is a permanent Kimu-mode going on in normal life actions also, which gives me the imminent impression of a true master of this context.

Training session in the park was an interesting one. First we did Kimu as usual, but after that we sought out a tree that was suitable for our personal training, based on a feeling. After this we started getting contact with the tree. Bumping and leaning exercises, our stomach, upper back, shoulder etc.

At first it was a mystery to me what on earth we were doing but after the shoulder lean I started to get some idea. After that we hit the tree gently with our arm and took a soft grip of the tree. After that we hit with the side of the palm and kicked it gently with a lower thigh.

1902872_10152265963179570_424190658_n

As explained we changed the contact point step by step away from our core. So I felt that the added value of this Kimu method was especially the channeling of energy and creating a solid structure to pass the energy out to its target.

It was a delight to see GM Kim showing his skills to the tree constantly. Contact happened as sustained fire but still the flow of energy seemed to exist from blow to blow as it was just one motion.

You take the energy in and you must let it out.

As I heard it GM Kim taught that the source of energy lies in the ground and we should concentrate on the feeling under our big toe. From here the energy can be channeled through the body to the palm and carried out to the tip of the sword. He also emphasized the importance of the stomach area or as he said “the bladder” in channeling the energy.

This is where the gains of Kimu appear in the sword art. As you can channel the energy to the tip of the sword economically, it is possible to do multiple cuts with a fluent movement, like Chongjaenim’s sustained fire with the tree. I believe these benefits are universal to all martial arts, but only the ones that are interested in the world of inner strength emphasize these things.

541701_4548936580292_1327219341_n

In the dan tests Finland got five new chodan’s and there was also a dan test and a pre-dan test for higher dan grades. During the seminar one 3.dan was graduated. We got to see some very beautiful Kumbup and even some very skillful two sword cutting.

The skill level of the Finnish 3.dan and 4.dan seems stunning to my eye. Main seminar day for all belt levels consisted of one and two swords forms, Kimu and drawing and sheathing with two swords (Ssangkum Chackbaldosul).

Also the dan got to see some very accurate points in the Simsang Kumbup shown by GM Kim. Absolutely beautiful skill demonstrated indeed. Ssangkum Chackbaldosul consisted of small and accurate movements reinforced with a true fighting spirit. It is truly beautiful to see very strong self-expression‍ through such a minimal motion. This exercise really seemed to reflect the inner spirit of the one holding the swords.

GM Kim likes to talk about love and energy. Energy is love, love is energy. You do good things to others and good things will happen to you. If the essential truth was to be summarized to only one word, I think Chongjaenim’s word would be “love”.

10308116_10203545596027870_787360887640180849_nIn this seminar it was also seen in his humble actions. One HK practitioner had injured a toe and was not able to practice one day so GM took time from his teachings just to help this person with his acupuncture. A while after the treatment this person came with us to train again.

As I hear this is a common way for GM Kim to take care of his students in urgent need in other seminars as well. He wants also to teach acupuncture to his higher dan students. Some information was shared in this seminar about the subject among the higher dan.

Similar caring behavior was seen in other situations also, in helping to serve food with others for example. I had an opportunity to try a special Korean coffee GM happened to have with him. Good coffee, nice chat, something to remember.

During the seminar GM Kim attended to his student’s wedding all the way from Korea and spent time with us in the summer cottage of the Finnish HK rep. We had a great time enjoying food, drink, music, Finnish sauna and great company! Personally I so much enjoy the fact that this is not just going to the dojang and back home. This is life inside and outside of the dojang, friends sharing things under a great teacher and a great art.

Not just sports, not just fighting but life itself. Of course the motives of men are varying, but I feel that it is very important to emphasize these wide-ranging motives behind practicing martial arts and especially the wide-ranging opportunities in training them. Martial arts have lots to offer to different people.

1482869_10152321265238349_5420559443834597650_n

Martial art is often seen as way of upbringing, education and personal growth. We all have our significant paths and lives. On our path one might consider it important to have a good teacher.

During my studies I have bumped into this today’s problem that people have more or less lost their connection to nature. I have also seen it written, that some martial arts offer a good solution to this current problem.

As we are studying the principles of nature, natural movement and natural state of mind, even training outside and respecting our surroundings it brings us closer to nature. And it has a connection to our health and happiness.

A lot depends on the teacher. In my opinion in the United World Haedong Kumdo Federation there is a Grandmaster who is a very good one in teaching to think out of the box, the laws of nature and the sword art of Haedong Kumdo. And the Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu is as a style a very unique one! I recommend this art and Chongjaenim Kim’s teaching to anybody interested in these kinds of things. This is not for fighting but for the quality of life.

Thank you all for the great seminar!

See you soon.

Haedong!

Feedback of the Russian III Iternational Seminar. 2nd to 4th of May 2014

10409545_10152443309084570_5566028096561628200_n

As it became traditional in May 2014 the 3-d International HK Seminar
under the supervision of Grandmaster Kim has held in Smolensk , Russia.
It was great surprise for us when we discovered that the President of
Australian Haedong Kumdo Association Mr. Stuart Campbell is also coming to visit our Seminar.

We have unforgettable moments training and learning together. Kumbups, sparrings, ki-mu outside the Dojang
– it was all interesting and helpful as usual when Grandmaster Kim is with us.
We had the Dan test and 5 more black belts appear in Russian HK Treasure.
First Russian Championship this year became a part of our HK history.

This time Grand Master Kim again surprised us with his practical confirmation of the principals of Nature.
He helped our student Viktor and Sergey to recover after illness and me personally, to quit smoking.
“ Acupressure and acupuncture used by GM helped us to feel much better.
By understanding the way of energy we can stay healthy and recover quickly from such things.
Students also had the opportunity to speak with the GM in between of trainings
and he explained to them the basic principles of Nature.
This new experience was very useful for them
and they begin to understand that energy is always here and always in all things.

10423781_10152443333449570_5758689787536599858_n

We can borrow the energy from the universe but it is important to remember it is not ours.
Grand Master told us even our bodies do not belong to us,
and eventually we must give them back.

And so because they are only borrowed it is important to look after them!

This is why the Haedong Kumdo training is so very good!

Training physically but also at a deeper level it is so very good for us!
Ki Mu is also very good for us and allows us to begin the feeling of the energy around
and in side us. Ki Mu outside in the nature is so very good
because the energy is all around and inside…..
russ
But this time we opened something very important – communication.
We here in Russia became a part of something big – the name of it – HK Family.
Mr. Campbell (non talking about GM Kim) was the first one from abroad who came to visit our HK events,
and he showed that Russia has the potential interest for the rest of the world to come to and even to be in love with.

Thanks to GM Kim and Mr. Campbell we spent plenty of time talking, sharing our experience in HK
with each other and with our students.

Next Year we hope to have more time to talk and spend time together

10366137_737909626259203_4440932773876466169_n

As a perfect final of our event became the promise from Mr. Campbell and our Finish HK brothers to come next year to visit our Country.
On behalf of Russian HK Association, all instructors , regional representatives Alan Guluev,
Alexey Zinin , Boris Buiskich, new black belts and our students

I would like to thank GM Kim and Mr. Campbell for the perfect time spent together.

Tuvimos momentos inolvidables entrenando y aprendiendo juntos.

The first German Haedong Kumdo seminar with Grand Master Kim Jeong Seong from Korea. The occasion was long awaited by the German Haedong Kumdo association representative Master Mustafa Balkans. This event was held at the sports hall for the German Olympic base in the city of Bochun, a city renowned for its role in the transformation of industrial and youth subcultures and is one of the largest metropolitan centers in Germany. With a definitive structure to the seminar, Grand Master Kim delivered the basics of Haedong Kumdo including basic movements and forms and progressing to Kyukkum (sparring)techniques and paper cutting practice.

The message that Grand Master Kim delivered was that attitude and mental focus is the key, and that enjoyment of what you do is paramount!Grand Master Kim showed humor and a natural understanding as he taught students from age 8 to 50 years old and answered all questions that his very eager audience had for him. All participants felt happy about the experience that Grand Master Kim delivered, including visiting participants from Holland and Belgium. The participation of these guests was truly appreciated!During his stay, Grand master Kim left me with many messages and impressions.

I have personally learned from and trained under many famous masters of the martial arts including Jessy Glover and Ted Wong, and now with Grand Master Kim Jeong Seong.During private training with GM Kim and Raven Munster it became apparent the depth of his understanding of the martial arts. He spoke to the root of Martial Arts, about the true understanding of the martial arts.Any one can learn the movements, but it does not mean you will reach a high standard.

You must recognise your innate qualities and train your to improve your acquired charachteristics.“Balance…. Collect and hold the central line….. breathing……feel the energies….. implement these in combat, with or without the sword! If we are one with the environment and not separate we will realise that we flow (like a river) with the life energy. This we have to use. Being alive, remain in the river. This also means keep the correct breathing and in doing so take power and use it”.

What I found very interesting was the combat application of the KI Mu! When GM Kim showed this it surprised me due to the “internal” nature of the style. It is similar in aspects to Wing Chun, Tai Chi, Pa Kua, Bagua Zhang, I Ching and Jun Fan Gung Fu.

Haedong Kumdo has since given more to me…..

It takes us deep into the roots of Martial arts!

It is alive,

It has a soul!

Ki Mu is not a religion or anything of the kind….

It is an understanding of our lives, our health, our environment, of all that surrounds us!

Not to be limiting, set no limits…..
