“Unveiling the True Essence of Martial Arts: Integrating Mind, Body, and Spirit for Healing” carries the same meaning as this sentence “Discovering the Essence of Martial Arts: Embracing Mind, Body, Spirit with Healing.” Both versions convey the idea of exploring the connection between martial arts and the holistic well-being of the mind, body, and spirit.
Many practitioners and instructors become captivated by combat techniques, cutting techniques, or sparring. However, no matter how proficient one becomes in these aspects, there will always be others who are better.
As time passes, physical limitations may weaken one’s abilities, making it increasingly challenging to perform such techniques. This applies to all martial arts. Consequently, we can not help but consider what the ultimate goal of martial arts should be.
In particular, Haedong Kumdo involves training in Jinkum (sharpened swords), which involves sword combat, a skill that may not be necessary in modern society, rendering it seemingly unnecessary.
Although it is crucial to continue pursuing physical and mental training, many practitioners still find themselves enchanted by mystical or metaphysical expressions of swordsmanship, reminiscent of what one might see in movies or dramas.
However, such flashy displays are only possible in films. To truly approach the ultimate goal of martial arts, one must understand the essence and reality of martial arts training.
This is where the quality and abilities of the instructor become vital. No matter how large or renowned an association may be or how skillfully one can demonstrate cutting techniques or combat, it may bring personal satisfaction and reassurance, but it falls far from achieving the ultimate goal of martial arts.
Throughout our lives, we encounter various teachers who guide us in our education from a young age. The same applies to martial arts. No one person’s abilities are limitless; they are inherently limited.
One person may possess exceptional speed and flexibility, mastering physical movements, while another may not be as physically skilled but can grasp the principles of body movements through wisdom, knowing how to handle the human body for health and happiness. Moreover, if they achieve harmony and balance in their body’s energy flow, awakening the essence of the world’s workings through their mind and body, they can contemplate how martial arts training can make human life better. Gradually, they become well-rounded martial artists, combining pen and sword.
Understanding why our ancestors referred to martial arts as “Muye” will lead to a better understanding of the ultimate goal of martial arts.
Even now, with calls for globalizing martial arts, many individuals tirelessly promote martial arts in different parts of the world. Those who learn from them can not help but weigh their teachings, which will assist them on their individual paths.
Even at this moment, many people around the globe are advocating for the globalization of martial arts, tirelessly promoting its dissemination.
Those who learn from them cannot help but scrutinize their teachings, as it significantly influences their individual paths.
Without acquiring the most fundamental essence of martial arts,
merely excelling at cutting techniques,
merely mastering swordplay,
and piecing together techniques from various martial arts without truly understanding their origins,
despite their fervent efforts in advocating for globalization,
if they lack inherent talent and cultivation,
they will only produce another form of rudimentary and disjointed practices.
As an example, in South Korea, many exceptional young masters and instructors of Haedong Kumdo in their 20s or 30s are commonly witnessed for their remarkable cutting and sword skills. Martial arts training is ultimately a part of human life, and if we can comprehend it as a whole, we will lead our respective martial arts endeavors to be the best they can be.
In conclusion,
through martial arts, we master techniques, delve into philosophy, and connect it to healing.
Understanding these three aspects and refining the mind and body will enable us to grasp the principle of nature,
gain enlightenment through mindfulness and awareness,
and ultimately experience the essence of what the love of Nature is,
leading us to live our lives
with less struggle, less hardship, and less pain as we return to the embrace of nature.

I am going to illustrate for trainees to explore the core and essence of Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu practice in brief as follows.
In the training of Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu Haedong Kumdo
Through Ki-Mu training, one becomes aware of the flow of energy – Mindfulness and Awareness.
Even Breathing and Normal Mind form the foundation of all practices – Enlightenment.
By employing one or two swords,
one seeks mental and physical training to grasp how to move the body automatically – the principle of body movement.
Practitioners engage in Ki Mu Practice, a training method that cultivates a deep connection with the flow of energy. – Flow of Energy
This practice fosters a heightened state of mindfulness and awareness, where even the act of breathing and maintaining composure becomes the foundation of all training endeavors, ultimately leading to enlightenment. – Enlightenment
Through the use of one or two swords in physical training, practitioners gain a profound understanding of the principles of body movement.
Ki Mu training emphasizes the importance of maintaining Even Breathing and a state of Normal Mind (composure), while sword training focuses on achieving body harmony and balance. – Mastery of how to move the body automatically

with Vipassana Acupuncture Practice
Identifying the blockages and openings of energy in uncomfortable or painful areas and establishing the communication of energy to return to balance and harmony through practice.
The methods of practice include meditation, acupuncture, using stones, swords, and any other tools.
The principle of the body moving automatically and naturally is based on the fundamental concept that my body is not truly mine, and the energy is not mine either.
All the above training methods share the same underlying essence, providing a common foundation.
Whether it is sword training or
acupuncture, regardless of the tool used, it becomes a tool for my mental and physical training, leading to the elevation of martial skills and guiding human life to a better state.
Therefore, the reason why all practice and religious groups use phrases such as “forget yourself,” “discard yourself,” or “empty mind” becomes clear through experiencing and understanding directly through Ki-Mu practice with one or two sword training.
In summary:
As practitioners delve deeper into their training, they come to realize that their body is not separate from themselves but rather a vessel through which energy flows.
This understanding leads to a state where the body moves instinctively, and practitioners recognize the impermanence of self-identity.
This principle is echoed in various other spiritual and training disciplines that encourage individuals to let go of self-centeredness and transcend their limitations.
Through the integration of Ki Mu Su Practice and sword training, practitioners are able to directly experience and comprehend the rationale behind the emphasis on selflessness and self-transcendence in all forms of training and spiritual pursuits.
This holistic approach enables individuals to achieve higher levels of accomplishment beyond mere mastery of martial arts techniques, which is the goal of Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu Haedong Kumdo training
Ultimately, the training in Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu leads practitioners to the right practice for better training and a better life as well.
