Haedong Kumdo Dan-Level Cutting Test Regulations
The following regulations outline the official cutting test criteria for Dan-level black belt evaluations in Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu Haedong Kumdo. These standards apply according to the level of Dan being tested and are designed to evaluate the practitioner’s skill, control, precision, and ability to apply sword technique using either one sword (Ssangsukum) or two swords (Ssangkum).
■ 2nd Dan Cutting Test
Weapon: One sword (Ssangsukum)
Target: One Bamboo Target Stance.
Cutting Requirement: Two cuts total.
Type of Cuts: Must include both left and right diagonal cuts.
Can be upward or downward.
■ 3rd Dan Cutting Test
Weapon: One sword (Ssangsukum).
Target: Two Bamboo Target Stances.
Cutting Requirement: Minimum of five cuts.
Type of Cuts: Must include both left and right cuts.
At least one upward cut is required.
■ 4th Dan Cutting Test
Weapon: Double swords (Ssangkum).
Target: Three or more Bamboo Target Stances.
Cutting Requirement: Minimum of eight cuts.
Type of Cuts:
Must include left and right cuts, upward and downward cuts.
■ 5th Dan Cutting Test
Weapon: Double swords (Ssangkum).
Target: Four or more Bamboo Target Stances.
Cutting Requirement: Minimum of ten cuts.
Type of Cuts:
Must include left and right cuts, upward and downward cuts.
