Good students, it will make a teacher be good!
No good students, it will make a teacher be stupid!

Finally,
Good teaching with wisdom,
it will make a student be shown by behaviour & words & thoughts.

2013 Irish Haedong Kumdo Report

This is a report from the 2013 Irish Haedong Kumdo seminar and training week. During Master Kim’s time spent here in Ireland he taught us many things that we had not experienced before, such as two sword forms (Ssangkum Beup), two sword partner work and sparring, Ki-Mu (breathing and meditation), and the Principles of Nature.

The Principles of Nature.

Master Kim explains that everything in nature has a cycle, when the cycle is complete it makes one whole. Using Um-Yang (Yin-Yang) as an example, when Um and Yang are together it makes it whole and the cycle is complete. If they are separated, then the cycle is incomplete. But there can’t be Um without Yang, they are one whole thing.

Take for example water (H2O), water is water, a force can change it into steam, ice, cloud, etc, but it always returns to being water when the force is removed and the cycle is complete.

Life is no different, a man and a woman join to create life, they have children and the cycle continues. However when someone dies it is not the end of the cycle, their energy, even though you can’t see it, becomes part of the cycle. Therefore cycle of life and death are one whole thing.

Marcia’s experience.

Next is a report on what Marcia experienced after training one day during Master Kim’s visit to Ireland.

“When Master Kim did the O ring test on myself I was surprised at how well it worked, although it is similar to a type of allergy testing.”

“I was amazed at how fast the contents of the sachets worked, I felt a difference almost immediately and it lasted a few days. I was even more surprised at how fast they worked on Josie, which shows that her deafness is a symptom of something else rather than an ailment in itself. That the body can be balanced so quickly is wonderful, I would really like to know more about this and whether it’s possible to buy these.”

A quote by Marcia Wright.

Conclusion

Even though during Master Kim’s stay here in Ireland I graded to 2nd Dan, I realised I still have much to learn about the martial arts and life in general. We all really enjoyed his stay, and everyone learnt a great deal from the experience. The seminars were really special, and we even had a visit from the Mayor of Castlebar.

Until next time, yours Russell Collman.

2013 Irish Haedong Kumdo

Realization through the training of Haedong Kumdo
– The Way of Martial Arts ?

543753_10151132189329570_2039009858_n

What is the Way(Do,도,道) of Martial Art?

I am having fun meeting new people and teaching them martial arts overseas.
Although I have some trouble with expressing myself well,
I would like to let you know that the people I meet seem to be happy and enjoy for finding
something that they have longed for.
Many things change rapidly over the years. In accordance with the rush people seem to be in,
I believe we martial artists should do our best not to waste time and energy while training,
and focus on those things that lead to a more positive, and better life.

The 21st century martial artist seems to train for the rise of the sense of body and physical
strength.
Although methods of teaching may be different across different marital arts,
the fundamental value of martial arts remains the same.
The blending of consciousness surrounding the body and mind will lead to a healthy
and better life and these will create stable and relaxed state of mind,
also the most natural state of mind.
Where pure emotion replaces a facade.
That itself is happiness.

This is also reflected in (explained by) Love or Energy; as a nature wavelength.
You will also realize proper amounts of rest and food affect the body and mind as well. The
way(도,道) of martial arts(도, 道), in Korean pronounced as “Do,”
is nothing like described descriptions portrayed at in scenes at the end of a book or
movie, where the hero remains with his sword held high.

In other words,
The way of martial arts is the도(道) of an individual that must be dedicated by that individual’s
following persona tenets and traits sometimes unrealized by anyone else.
Ultimately, that leads to the way of nature or the law nature or
principle of nature that everyone must follow.

Thus,
all of us who train for the martial arts must physically and mentally train themselves in
accordance with that law of nature.
As you advance in training, you follow the law of nature and realize that there are “human” laws.
Also, while learning and teaching Martial arts,
you then reinforce your own path, relearning things in new ways.
Providing and fostering insights of yourself for a better life.

During martial arts training, you possess a healthy body and natural state of mind,
and it helps you live through all obstacles in your communications
and interactions with family and friends surrounding you.
That state of mind is what I would call도(道, the way).
Rather than emphasizing the superficial meanings or fantasy of martial arts, we should train
ourselves for the best state of body and mind.

After all,
it increases the body and mind of yourself.

In turn,
while maintaining and developing the most natural mind,
that spirit retained within you will spread to others demonstrating,
by example,
your understanding that nothing exists but the express wish of a better human existence.
In modern society,
the martial arts allow us to reach the healthy and happy state of mind.
The above is what I believed to be a true training for도(道,the way).
This representation is more satisfying than trying to achieve and train for something by
restraining yourself in distant small places where no one can reach you.

Thus,
I believe no singular religious doctrine can excel the basic spirit of the martial arts.
The reason is that those that have the most natural body and mind
through personal discovery and focused practice own/possess the greatest weapons
they will ever need…
They learn the flow of energy through martial arts training will assist them to peacefully live and
communicate with their neighbors, families and self.
We often see a public media coverage on many social issues such as divorces, corruptions and
extra martial affairs.

I believe all these social issues stem from the emphasis on material wealth and political power
by current a certain religious groups.
Any gestures of love and harmony from such kind of religious organizations
are not founded on the basic spirit (도(道)) of martial arts,
and thus a religious doctrine could not be enlighten the basic spirit (도) of the martial arts.
Energy from the nature (Nature Love or Nature Wavelength, Love etc.) obtained
through martial art training is based in personal respect.
This then can raise the mind and body directly and maintain and develop the most natural mind.
In this most natural state of mind,
we know how to take care of ourselves and cherish our loving ones around us including family
and friends.

The most ideal martial arts training in modern times is to raise your mind to be in harmony with
others through communications, and naturally spreads this influence around you.
This is true 도(道, the way), but no other special or peculiar training can achieve this.
The true purpose of martial arts training is to help people live wisely and rightly
for the better quality of life. That is why,
whenever I visit countries to teach martial arts, I do not emphasize on only the physical
discipline.

944539_10151720236614570_1992724236_n
It is important not to restrain oneself only in physical health.
If you look at a certain example of martial arts organizations across the world,
it is usually initiated by an individual and he or she opens up a small-scale gym for the training,
creates a big group, and ultimately becomes a big-scale business organization
through marketing and political influences.

At first,
its influence seems powerful but people usually lose their appetites in it
because of its lack of quality in training.
Martial arts training must be based on nurturing the love of one’s own and that love obtained
through training will always radiate and flourish in one in response to the passage of time.
I believe that Instead of leaving people’s name after one’s death,
the best life is to leave one’s love, essence (or pure fragrance) for the next generation.

No matter how big and socially influential of martial arts organization, its doctrines and
training never excels that individual’s love and only way to achieve this is through “patience.”
Although my physical size and mental influence is yet minute, the essence of my spirit is grand
and can still be reached at every corner of the earth.

I began to see how other people behave and interact and because of that, my life gets more fun.
One’s life is nothing more than that, and thus aligning oneself with these others is important.
Through martial arts training, you nurture the love of yourself and develop your own thoughts
and actions.

Furthermore,

this allows you to communicate with families and friends and through this,
you will find yourself strengthening the weaknesses of your life.

Feedback of 2013 Russian Haedong Kumdo Events including Seminars and Dan Grading Test, Championship etc.

From 8th to 13th of May in Smolensk , Russian Federation,
the 2d International Haedong Kumdo Seminar has been held by the supervision of Grandmaster Kim Jeong Seong. Many participants from Smolensk, Moscow, Saratov, Noviy Urengoy, Chernogolovka, Roslavl and Desnogorsk come to the Seminar and enjoyed the way of sword. During the Seminar the first in Russia Championship was organized. That was the Championship of the City of Smolensk. In sparring and forms (kumbups) 20 sportsmen were fighting for the medals. 11 instructors were attended to the Dan test and received black belts from Grandmaster Kim. That event was extremely helpful for the development of Haedong Kumdo in Russia.

During our Seminar we had a unique chance to talk with Grandmaster Kim about some very important things related with martial art as well as with our daily life. This are the principles of nature. Each particular person like all around us is connected with one line in the universe.
We need the Energy to live. We can get the Energy from the food we eat and receive it from outside because the Energy is all around us.

This is why the food is important . What we eat ?How regularly? The answers for that questions are directly influence our heals conditions. The Energy must flow in our body without any blocks otherwise it may course to same serious heals damages. The traditional Medicine sometimes trying to treat not the reason of the problem but the the result of it.

“…The unbalance of body from unhealthy habits in daily life, often cause several symptoms like chronic pains in back, shoulder or neck. These postural imbalances are known to have a close relationship with internal and/or mental diseases. Practicing Haedong Martial Arts can be said to have healing effect in recovering postural imbalance, and thus help patients who have suffered from those chronic diseases, to alleviate their pains.

The flow of energy( love of nature, light of nature, wave of nature) all over the body connected with energy or light in the nature. We should know how it goes through daily training for a long time. After that, we will probably find out where blocked into the our body in a certain degree. According to person’s ability, it is definitely different.
By trying to see the flow of energy and recognize it, and finally come to know ourself, we can know others as well…”*

As an example our instructor Boris before the Seminar had a very serious problem with his back . In the hospital he has been told that the operation is needed to be done for him. He felt a pain in the back and daily had the painkillers injections. Grandmaster Kim examined him and found out some blocks and that according to his body’s conditions, a datum point was learned on shoulders. (Fig. 1,2)

He treat him and immediately after the visit the problem gone. Now Boris is OK and very grateful to Grandmaster. From my point of view that is very good example for all I mentioned before.

With the proper conditions, one may really enjoy and achieve enjoyment with others.Acting right by the order of the Nature then results in balance and peace. To do it we must follow the steps:

1 step: Relax, and feel the energy
2 step: Focus, and see it
3 step : Realize, and do it

“…God’s light, energy wavelength, love, energy, and power are called differently, but all have the same origins, and the energy of the Nature(LOVE) will take care and manage, the overall effectiveness of the treatments and teachings, will vary according to the degree of the person’s cultivation & discipline etc…”

Thank you very much Grandmaster Kim for such an interesting seminar, with the highest technical level and attention to the details. We are very proud to be the part of the United World Haedong Kumdo Federation,

Haedong!!!!!

The Principles of The Nature is written down in Russian by Sergey, HK Rep of Russian HK Association

The Principles of The Nature in English is translated into Russian.

At the 2012 EU Haedong Kumdo Seminar,
Subject : The Principles of The Nature
Place : Montpellier In France
Date : May 3 to 12, 2012

These are also very small parts of things to be taught in the middle of staying and training in France
with EU haedong Kumdo Members into the training with having a great time.
Today also I would like to say this part for our better life through spiritual growth
in Haedong Kumdo with special emphasis at the below;

1) What is the Law of Natural Balance ?

The law of natural balance both in ones body, mind and circumstances surrounding us,
can enable mental and physical disease ( dis-ease ) to be eliminated.
As we progress as human beings to achieve natural balance, our lives become easier
and the ability to communicate with and understand others, becomes better.

Eventually,
this facilitates the passage to the gateway of happiness, which is the main purpose of human life.
This is the basic law of balance, the very principle of Nature itself.
Acupuncture and moxibustion can be said as natural gifts for self-healing for human-beings.
The fundamental principle is balance and communication with nature.
The basic principle of these arts is reviving the natural healing power given to us from birth.
The healing arts of acupunture and moxibustion work
by unblocking, reducing or adding to the energy flow in the body.

That is to say,
to make the energy flow achieve a natural balance.
It’s almost the same as the flow of water supply system which needs equal pressure from each direction.
When there is unbalanced pressure in a system, stresses and strains are produced ( dis-ease )
which can sometimes leads to failure, or for example a burst pipe.
When the system is in balance there are no stresses or strains induced as there is equal pressure
and the system is said to be at rest or in balance.
Pressures are seen differently in the body of sick patients or invalids.
It’s because the energy of some parts is too strong or too weak to function normally.
So making the energy flow evenly or equally in each part will be needed.
When the energy is in balance the pressure is removed and therefore no discomfort or effort is applied.
This is the law of natural balance or harmony.
This can be applied not only to one’s body health,
but also to all the things that we do in our daily life.
http://cafe.daum.net/uwhkf/JvX3/39

2) What is Enlightenment?

We are told to be natural in everything we do.
Of course this is easier said than done.
The idea is not complicated but to have this self awareness
in everyday life is not simple.
Other than sickness due to injury, mostly when we fall ill,
it is either due to stress or bad diet.
When we are in balance, the body is able to cope and heal itself
even if we are under stress and badly nourished.
As we grow older however, often the body’s ability to self heal seems to be diminished.
This can sometimes mean that by the time we are aware of the symptoms of a problem,
we are already in a serious condition.
Most often the onset of serious illnesses such as diabetes or high blood pressure,
have their roots in an unbalanced lifestyle and unwholesome thought patterns
that have been practised for many years.
We should learn to understand that our own existence in the world
is but just one grain of sand on the beach of life.
This is why we should try to follow the balanced law of nature.
It is for this reason that so many wise men and religious leaders
have repeatedly taught us to love and respect each other.
To follow the true law of Nature is based on having a loving attitude
not only to others but also to oneself.
The true meaning of love is not just limited to the romantic love
between man and a woman, but the ability to feel no limits
and to fully possess the life energy of the Universe.
The law of Nature is very simple,
even a young child is able to comprehend this.
To stay in balance with nature in the ‘rat race’ of modern living
is not so easy to put into practise however.
This imbalance then leads to exhaustion and illness and even in some cases premature death.
Enlightenment can be said to having the awareness of things in one’s daily life
that we didn’t have before. Once you gain awareness of things in your daily life
that you were previously ignorant of, then this is the beginning of enlightenment.
“Enlighten” means to be balanced, to know oneself better and to be honest with oneself

ie. I’m not the best, I’m not the most clever, I’m not always right etc.
Being normal could be described as having self balance.
Enlightenment can be found in all our daily lives.
Once we stop unnatural behaviour and thought patterns,
we begin to feel comfortable and happy,
then the energy that we exude tends to
make others around us feel comfortable and happy too.
This can also be explained as the principle of natural balance.
Another thing we should contemplate on is self-respect or caring for ourselves,
which will be covered more in a later article.

Realization through the training of Haedong Kumdo – The Way of Martial Arts

Realization through the training of Haedong Kumdo – The Way of Martial Arts

In English

Realization through the training of Haedong Kumdo – The Way of Martial Arts

The Way of Martial Arts
= The Way of Human being
= The Way of The Nature(law, principle,Love)

The way(도,道) of martial arts(도, 道), in Korean pronounced as “Do,”

is nothing like described descriptions portrayed at in scenes at the end of a book or

movie, where the hero remains with his sword held high.
