A. Preface  A. 서언

우리 일상생활에서 우연적인 일과 필연적인 일, 신비스런 것과 현실적인 것들, 우리가 무명(잘못된 논리와 행동)과

애욕(자기것을 우선으로 함)을 배우고, 자신들의 노력과 체험에 의해 기존 자기 사고의 변환으로 우리의 무지가 확연히

들어나면서 우연스런 일들과 신비스런 일들은 하나씩 벗겨져간다. 결국 우연과 신비는 없다는 것이다.

On our daily incidental life, there are accidental and  inevitable things, mysterious and realistic one and so on.

In fact, we have MUMYUNG(無明) which is false logic and behavioral etc. and EOEUK( 愛慾) which is making

one’s priority by selfish etc. as a human being. By the conversion of the existing self-thinking orignated from their great and continuous efforts and experiences,

Coincidences and Mysterious things will be gone as an onion is peeled it out one by one with exposing obviously

an appearance of the ignorances. Eventually we will come to know there is no the existence of the coincidence

and the mystery in the universe.

우리 무술인들은 일반 종교자나 성직자 들보다 수도하기에, 공부하기에 훨씬 좋은 조건과 위치를 가지고 있다.

무언가를 할 수 있는 기본은 육체적으로 튼튼해야만 생각할 수가 있고, 행할 수가 있고,

필요한 에너지를 내적으로 가지면서 창출하게 되는 것이기 때문이다.

Most of people in the martial arts have a good conditions and constitutions much better than  common religion

or a priest  to study and cultivate by ourselves. Because the foundmental things which is to be able to do something

has to be based on  physically , and then  it can be think and do things as have to be done , and the energy

to be needed with them will be generated internally and mentally.

종교적으로 보면 과거 어느 나라에서 자기 세력을 집권화하고, 정치화하는 데 유리하고 편리하도록 왜곡되고,

알 수가 없으니 몰라 가르칠 수 없으니 경전에서 없어지는 부분들 등등이 많이 보여 짐을 알 수 있다.

그리고 많은 종교자들이 병으로 많이 마지막 생을 마감한다. 우리무술을 무의동원이라고도 했다.

결국에는 무술을 통해 생을 깨치는 방법을 가르친 것이다. 아무리 현실적으로 훌륭하고 존경받는 종교인이라 하더라도

마직막 생을 그렇게 마감했다면, 그들의 수도생활에서 겉과 속이 잘못되어 왔던 것을 확연히 인정해야 한다.

In the past, when we look back over  old dynasty, we can see many of them had been trying to get hold of

making it  as a religious self-ruling power and make it politicize and even make it distort ,

we finally also can find out  some contents of them into the Scriptures could be disappeared

due to ignorance or  impossible to teach without an actual knowledge.

Nowadays we see  many religions who end up with a serious illness at the last. Our martial arts in Korea

was called “MUEUEDONGWON(武醫同原)”- means “Martial arts and the healing art” is origanated from same one

as we know that Medicine is a benevolent art or The physician is a humanitarian calling from ancient times.

our ancestors  in Korea had been cultivated and taught so that we come to know how to make our mental

and phycal things cultivate and have a  realization and enlightenment in reality in the end.

No matter how somebody in  religions have a brilliant and respected religious life , if their last life end up

with a serious illness , they should clearly recognize the actual truth had been went wrong in a certain points

may be wrong into their internal and external religious life for their study.

우리 무술 동작은 어느 한 가지를 놓고 개인 능력에 따라 무한대로 만들어 내어질 수 가 있다.

그것도 결국에는 무한소에 불과할 뿐만 아니라 이미 오랜 세월을 거쳐서 누군가에 의해서 수없이 되풀이 되었다는 것을 알고

느끼게 되는 그 시기에, 아마 조금은 정신적으로 성숙하고 있다고 볼 수도 있을 것이다.

A martial arts movement can be made and created the one of unlimited number depending on personal ability .

In the end, it’s nothing but infinitesimal and even it already had been repeating by lots of people

through generation after generation since the universe formed for a long-long time. When we will be able to come to

know or feel something in them, we may be say we can probably be recognize and see  something muture in our spirit.

과거 한국 현대무술 일세대가 지구촌에서 박치기로, 손날로, 관수 등으로 공중벽돌격파 등등으로 무술을 통한

인간한계이상을 보여주며 많은 사람들을 감동시키며, 우리 무술들을 보급 시켰다. 이제 동양인보다 체격 조건이 좋은

그들도 이제는 격파를 비롯한 많은 부분에서 기술적으로 아주 향상 되어 있다.

한국 일본 중국은 무술종주국으로서 보급하는 나라이라고 본다면, 이에 비해 그들은 계속 수용하면서 배우는 입장이

되다보니 무술 전체의 정보는 그들이 더 많이 가지고 있다 해도 과언이 아니다. 미국이나 유럽 쪽에서 각 무술에 대한

정보를 아주 다양하게 접할 수 있는 것이 그 예가 될 수 있다.

In the globe, the first generation in the modern martial arts from Korea had been spread korean martial arts very much

so many areas with teaching  many kinds of skills showing beyond human limitation in breaking and so on.

Nowadays the skills of many people in western countries with much better phycial condition than Asians have been

promoted and developed so much. so we see recently it would be easy and can be accessible  for us

to take an opportunity to get more information in the martial arts in the US and Europe etc.

이제 지구촌 무술보급의 방법은 많이 달라져야 됨을 강조하고자 한다. 어차피 본인은 본인세대에 내가 할 수 있는 만큼

내 삶을 즐기고, 내가 하고있는 무술을 통해 이의 술기과 이를 통한 영적 성장 등을 바라는 많은 지구촌의 사람들에게

가르치며 살다가 그렇게 가는 것이고, 그 다음의 일들은 다음 세대가 자기 능력대로 자기 원하는 대로 꾸려 나갈 것이다.

So now what I am gonna emphasize is that how to teach and learn martial arts in the  present generation in the globe

should be shown and taught  its diversity and change in that ways.    Anyway I do as much as I can in my present generation, I enjoy my life in the martial arts with my fanmily and my students

and I go as a right thing and teach it many people who would like to long for their spiritual growth and realization

and the development of its skills mentally and phycially  through martial arts as far as I can and as much as I can.

For next things, at least in the martial arts, next generation will take it and continue to do it as they do and

as they wish  depending on their own abilties.

Dear Haedong Kumdo reps, masters, instructors;

Scoil Padraig, Ballina was the chosen venue for the Haedong Kumdo European Instructor Seminar, 2008, and some of the best instructors from across Europe travelled to study and learn under the eminent Grandmaster Kim, Jeong Seong, 9th Dan.

On Saturday the 2nd there was an open seminar for both instructors and students, where Grandmaster Kim taught a variety of skills, including Kumbup (Forms) and Cutting.

During the course of the open seminar, Grandmaster Kim was assisted by some of the instructors from around Europe, each advising the students on how best to develop their skills and performance.

After the open seminar, each country present gave a demonstration of skills.

First up in the demonstrations was Ireland, with each of the three active Irish Dojangs making a presentation by both Instructors and students, Kumbup and Creative Kumbup by Martin O’Malley and his students, Creative Sparring by Steven Kelly and his students and Paper cutting by Harry Thompson and his students.

Next up was Sweden, who performed Kumbup, Team Kumbup, bamboo cutting and apple slicing, including a jump turning cut by Swedish Haedong Kumdo President, Pierre Sundin.

Paul Giffen from England gave a performance of Ssang Kum Chak-Baldo (Two Sword Drawing Form), followed by the Finish Team presenting Kumbup, Ssang Kumbup and paper cutting with the live sword from Finish President Mika Väyrynen.

Grandmaster Kim himself then gave a performance of two sword Kumbup, demonstrating the skills and ability which make him one of the Worlds greatest sword masters. His awe inspiring demonstration had everyone enthralled despite being tired from the morning session, they returned to their training with great enthusiasm.

Day one ended with grading examinations, Keup Gradings for the Irish Students and Dan Gradings for some of the European Teams. From the Keup Gradings, congratulations must go to Emma Flannery, Amy Vahey, Chloe Mullen, Darragh Mullen, Caoimhe Ryan and Fergal Rowe who were all awarded their yellow belt, and to Lorraine O’Malley and Russell Colman who were awarded their blue belt.

While for the Dan Gradings, congratulations to Henri Bergius from Finland on being awarded his 1st Dan, to Robin Pettersson, Sebastian Andersson and Magnus Brännström from Sweden on achieving their 2nd Dan.

A very special congratulations must go to Pierre Sundin from Sweden and Mika Väyrynen from Finland on being awarded their 3rd Dan after an extremely difficult examination.

They set themselves apart as leading the way on skill development for Haedong Kumdo in Europe.

After presenting the Certificates for the Dan Gradings, Grandmaster Kim then announced the new members of the European Union Haedong Kumdo Union, presenting membership certificates to Sebastian Andersson, Magnus Brännström from Sweden, Harry Thompson and Stephen Kelly from Ireland, Henri Bergius from Finland and Paul Giffen from England.

Grandmaster Kim then appointed Mark Adlington from England as Special Advisor to the European Union Haedong Kumdo Union, Mika Väyrynen as General Secretary, and Pierre Sundin, Christophoros Christodoulou from Greece and Martin O’Malley as the three Vice-Presidents of the Union. Congratulations to all on their new appointments.

Day two of the seminar was for Black Belts only, where Grandmaster Kim took the group through from Ssang Su Kumbup number 1 to 12, Simsang Kumbup, Yedo Kumbup numbers 1 to 9 and onto Bonkuk Kumbup before moving on to teaching Ssang Kumbup. This part of the seminar concentrated on furthering the knowledge of the Black Belts present, while giving them specific details to work on to improve their skills.

All told, this was another exceptional weekend of learning under Grandmaster Kim, who is world famous for both his personal skill and his teaching ability. Martin O’Malley, President of Haedong Kumdo Ireland said that ‘We are very grateful to Grandmaster Kim for travelling to Ireland to present this seminar, and to each of the teams who travelled from across Europe. This seminar was a success because of the efforts of everyone who attended, and we would like to thank them for their support. We wish to congratulate those who were awarded the various grades and we are looking forward to meeting them all again in Finland for the next European Haedong Kumdo seminar in 2009’.
