What is Energy in the martial arts through Haedong Kumdo?

These videos were taken by Jacek with Kathy from Ireland during their participation in the 2019 Dutch Workshop. (Also Lisa Kozak from USA helped to edit some parts in English.)

The below videos try to explain basic concepts, which are most important factors for better Haedong Kumdo training.

■​Whole body movement in sword spinning.

​In life as in nature, it is important to use the whole body when performing Haedong Kumdo.

A simple rotation or turning of the sword is rightly called a “wrist rotation”; this is a good explanation at the beginning stage. With more training, we eventually learn to use our whole body along with our wrist rotation, when handling the sword.

Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu HK is a sword system which teaches the student how to apply the principles of nature to all aspects of life, with or without a weapon.

Grandmaster Kim, explaining how to use the whole body with basic techniques to experience the movement and flow of internal energy.

With continuous, sincere practice of the exact Kimu poses in Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu HK, eventually the student will feel the energy moving in the body and reach a certain state of mind. There will be explanations shown with subtitles during the video.

■ Feel energy through Down & Middle, Upper block of Kimu in Haedong Kumdo

Try to feel energy through an exact pose of Kimu so you could be recognized where it moves all over the body as time is passing with continuous & repeated training with passion and effort in Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu Haedong Kumdo which will try to let you lead to a certain level of mind state.

​Through the years, around the world in seminars, Grandmaster Kim has stressed that the essence of energy movement is simple and clear–which is reflected in his comparisons with Nature.

■ Some brief explanations about the principle of body movements through Haedong Kumdo training

Showing with some explanations of body movements how to do through 2019 Workshop in Netherlands.

A number of videos explain on Facebook and YouTube how to draw and sheath the sword properly; those are useful resources.

If you learn the way of the Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu HK system, the emphasis again will be on how to naturally use the body with an awareness of how to feel and follow the energy as you draw and sheath the sword.

The quality of life improves with this awareness that is cultivated through your Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu HK experience.

요즘들어 해동검도의 많은 영상물들이 나온다. 기본자세가 수련의 알파이자 오메가이기에 이렇게도 설명해본다.

정면베기는, 내려벤다는 기존 의식 속 개념보다는, 그냥 두 팔을 올렸다 내렸다만 하면 되는 것이며, 그것은 몸구조를 통해 가장 효율적으로 행하면 각자 몸에 맞는 나름의 가장 자연스런 동작이 된다.
그때 에너지가 효율적으로 자연스럽게 흐르게 되는데, 그것을 보거나 느끼거나 능력껏 배운대로 하면된다.

가장 간단하고 기본적인 부분이 가장 어려울 수도 있지만 막상 알고나서야 그게 참 쉽다는것을 깨닫는 경우가 허다하다. 인간사가 그렇다.

그래서 가장 근본되는 기본을 알고나면 그때부터 조금씩 뭔가 눈에 띄이는게 나타난다.

여기서 강조하는 것은 해동검도 수련 입문 시 배우는 것이다. 그 이치를 알게 되는 것과 그냥 따라하는 것과는 하늘땅만큼 차이다.

물론 시간이 많이 걸리기는 하지만 그렇게 이치에 따라 배우질 못하면 평생 수련해도 알 길이 없다.

설사 몸동작은 바르게 할 수있다 하더라도 그것과 연결된 하나의 이치를 알 수없으니 스스로의 성숙은 힘들다. (기운의 조화와 균형, 자기창조영역 구축, 힐링, 침 뜸의 사용, 사랑 등)

그래서 사람들은 수행을 고행이라고 한다. 가르치는 사람이나 배우는 사람이나 어디가 끝인지 (마음의 목적지)공히 모르니말이다. 설사 안다하더라도 방법을 모르니 더더욱 그렇게 된다.

여기 영상물은 지난 해 네덜란드에서의 세미나영상 중 일부인데, 그 당시 참가한 아일랜드의 유단자 캐쉬가 그의 남편과 함께 찍은 동영상이다. 5월 6일 올린 유튜브 영상을 보고 설명하는데 좀 더 도움이 되길 바라면서 보내왔기에 다시 올려본다.
